This interrogation takes place just hours after Ruth Pyne was found bludgeoned and stabbed to death , at which time the police have no suspects and no evidence.

Jeffrey , a 21 year old University of Michigan student has been brought in for questioning by Sergeant David Hendrick regarding the homicide of his mother.

Ruth was found beaten and stabbed to death in the garage of the Pyne family's home in Highland Township, between Detroit and Flint in Michigan. Her then 10-year-old daughter and husband made the discovery.

According to the medical examiner, Ruth was first bludgeoned over the back of her head 7 times, cracking open her skull and most likely killing her, but at least rendering her unconscious. After this, The killer rolled Ruth over to stab her 16 times in the neck.

This is what is considered and overkill attack, indicating the killer had a strong personal motive.

Ruth’s relationship with family members was reported to be strained due to her reluctance to take her medication for mental illness reported to be ongoing for 14 years.

Ruth had previously been arrested for domestic violence and had been jailed for 2 weeks, during which time her husband, Bernie Pyne, petitioned the court to force Ruth to take her medication. After release from Jail, Ruth was committed to a mental hospital for 23 days, and criminal charges were dropped when Ruth promised to stay on her medication.

Ruth’s husband, Bernie, had been having an affair, but his alibi at the time the murder occurred was confirmed.

Ruth’s son, Jeffrey, provided an alibi, but it didn’t quite check out. He also had injuries on both of his hands, and the damage did not appear to be consistent with the manner in which Jeffrey claimed he received the injuries.

Despite the lack of any physical evidence, Jeffrey Bernard Pyne was convicted of second degree murder, and In 2013 was sentenced to twenty to sixty years in the Michigan Department of Corrections.

Jeffrey appealed his conviction in 2015, but was denied. He remains incarcerated at Ionia Correctional Facility in Michigan, a level 6 Supermax facility.

Although Jeffrey Pyne was convicted of murdering his mother, there is strong support in his community for his innocence.

Jeffrey plans to further appeal his conviction to the Michigan Supreme Court.
